Emmanuel Radnitzky most known as Man Ray was an American visual artist who spent most of his career in France. He was a significant contributor to the Surrealist movement and was also noted for his work with photograms, which he called "rayographs" in reference to himself.
“I do not photograph nature,” he once said. “I photograph my visions.”
Man Ray specilised in the black and white with hard subjects and focused on how some forms can be seen as others.
He often depicts the female form and other found objects in his work, making his one of much intrigue and mystery.
examples of his work are as follows;

His mixture of realism and the female form are extremely intresting and I am hoping to use the curve of the female form and soft lighting in my own pieces. His pieces can be seen as disturbing to some due to the black and white and surreal subject, I personally get a feeling of intrigue and don't feel uncomfortable at all. The vintage feel of the pieces invoke a strange feeling of nostalgia and the mixture of object and human form makes me think that we are all just objects in this world.
