Creating Surveys

Creating surveys are an unbiased way of getting large amounts of data pertaining to a certain subject. Having a statistical view of your demographic helps businesses make important decisions like if a product has a market or how many units of a product should be made.

I ended up creating two surveys using the web service SurveyMonkey; one more about the demographic as a whole and one more specific to creating a comic or game.

Basic survey questions usually consist of: dichotomous questions, (Yes or no questions)

multiple choice questions, rating scale questions,(on a scale of 1-5...)  single select questions,(choose one) the multiple select question (choose two of the following.

From my results I can deduce that my target demographic is almost half of each gender between the ages of 10 to 20. 71% prefer gaming and 28% reading; which tells me there is a demographic for both and look for media thats fantasy and can distract them from their everyday life.

The genre most preferred by my demographic is Fantasy much like World Of Warcraft, Runescape, Arrowsmith, and Seven to Eternity. But it would also be a good idea to mix the ideas of adventure and drama in my piece; but hopefully I can mix my own preference of romance and comedy to create experiments of different types of games and comics that can relate to all of these demographics.

After collecting results on my basic demographic, I began asking more specific questions related to the type of game/comic. The first question I  asked for was what type of character they look for in media. One candidate took the question literally which is a fault on my part wording the question incorrectly. the largest majority prefer a strong group which is what I want to focus on in my media.

I then decided to get a more personal view of my demographic. As a disclaimer it is possible that people have lied on the survey as they aren't comfortable sharing such a personal view of themselves. That being said it seems 66% of my demographic are of a larger body type. This detail is more in the interest go myself so I can create at least 1 character they relate to visually.

I also ask which they find the most physically appealing with the overwhelming majority picking an hourglass figure, but there is also a voice for large, strong, thick, curvy and small/cute bodytpe.

The 5th question was more specific about what what people find more interesting to read about. It was a close call but it seems there is a demand for fantasy quests but it seems the regular  troupes such as Good V Evil and more interesting troupes like aliens experiencing Earth are also topics that are found to be interesting.

I also asked if there was a market for physical copies of  comics and the over all answer was yes; this is the same for the physical copies of games such as for console and for PC.

I also ask which they find the most physically appealing with the overwhelming majority picking an hourglass figure, but there is also a voice for large, strong, thick, curvy and small/cute bodytpe

Finally I asked the frequency of consumption and as expected games have a higher frequency than reading; such is the modern era. Using this data I shall make my piece of media so it'll appeal to the widest audience possible. In future I could ask more specific questions such as a specific theme and storylines.
