Alex Ahad will be the artist I primarily focus on for the main bulk of my "Kickstarter" style project.Alex is the creative director for Skullgirls. He also supervised and approved of related aspects such as dialogue and character movesets.Alex says he was inspired by media such as Roger Rabbit, Batman: The Animated Series, FLCL and Gurren Lagann. For Skullgirls specifically by the doujin games he saw, such as EFZ and Melty Blood. Among the artists that he likes are George Kamitani, Hiroki Hayashi , Hiroyuki Imaishi , Nishimura Kinu, Bruce Timm, Shane Glines, Mike Mignola, Bill Presing, Tim Burton and Foo Swee Chin.

When I see Alex's work I am instantly drawn to the use of lineweight within the face such as how thin I becomes toward the end of the nose and side of the lips. I also like the way small hatching such as on Cerebella's arms and the white highlights all over the characters; it brings attention to those areas. I also love the cell shading as it makes animation easier and effective. The colours are bright with usually 3 main colours; In parasols design red is used as an accent and it really attracts the eye. The strong use of theme tied in with each character is very appealing to me and allows for interesting concepts within my own characters.

Looking at Kellee Riley's take on Alex Ahad's character Eliza is one I want to analyse for its use of technique. Kellee uses copic markers to create smooth gradients and layer them seamlessly, the style and pose is extremely animated and appealing; this is shown via the motion in the hair and the blood/flesh that surrounds her arms. She uses bright colours and utilises highlights to show the textures of the fabrics.
Another artist I am heavily inspired by is Katherine aka Dollightful. She is an american doll artist who now lives in korea and creates doll customs from fashion dolls. She takes great care creating outfits and wigs/hairstyles herself. All concepts come from her own work but she often takes time to research the subject of her dolls such as her eevee series in which she researched cultures her designs were inspired by.

with this doll above Katherine wanted to create a banshee doll inspired by Irish folklore, the ghost/woman in question would shriek in mourning about deaths to come (direct quote: video) I love the fact that she had modified the doll to the extent she did. Creating an open mouth and sculpting different assets of the doll, even going as far as to use wool for the hair to create a stiffness for photography. She often goes Outside to take photography for her dolls and I think I will implement that into my own work as promotional photos for my dolls.
